Launch of Nepalbhasa App

In a significant cultural milestone, Dabuli unveiled the new Nepalbhasa App at a special event held at Hotel Crowne Imperial on June 20th, Thursday, 2024 in Ravi Bhawan, Kathmandu. This launch marks a major step forward in the digitization and preservation of the Nepalbhasa (Newar) language.

The event was graced by the presence of Sunita Dangol, Deputy Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, who served as the chief guest. Other distinguished attendees included Malla K. Sundar (Vice Chancellor, Nepalbhasa Academy), Allen B. Tuladhar (Technology Entrepreneur of Nepal), Suresh Manandhar (Member, Language Commission Nepal), Rajan L. Joshi (Chief, Nepalbhasa Department, Tribhuvan University), and Pabitra Bajracharya (President, Newah Dey Daboo). The program was presided over by Anil Sthapit (President, Nepal Lipi Guthi) and Santosh Prajapati (President, Dabuli Nepal).

Vice Chancellor Malla of the Nepalbhasa Academy highlighted the importance of the new app in his speech, expressing confidence that it would significantly contribute to the preservation and promotion of the Nepalbhasa language. He reiterated that the Nepalbhasa language has endured for centuries and that initiatives like this ensure its continued relevance.

A video message from the project director, Dr. Subhash Ram Prajapati, provided insights into the development and features of the Nepalbhasa App. IT entrepreneur Allen B. Tuladhar also addressed the gathering, explaining the various activities and challenges involved in developing the app. Deputy Mayor Sunita Dangol emphasized the app’s importance for students and encouraged its widespread use. The event was moderated by script engineer and renowned musician Pabitra Kasa.

The Nepalbhasa Script Tutorial and Nepalbhasa Dictionary app, developed with the cooperation of the Kathmandu Metropolitan City, feature over 41,000 words. This initiative represents a significant achievement in the ongoing efforts to digitize and preserve the rich linguistic heritage of Nepal. The event also saw the unveiling of the Nepal Lipi tutorial developed by Nepal Lipi Guthi.

The launch event underscored the collaborative efforts of various individuals and organizations dedicated to promoting and preserving the Nepalbhasa language and script, ensuring that it continues to thrive in the digital age. The project is supported by the Kathmandu Metropolitan City with community partners including Nepal Lipi Guthi, Nepalbhasa Academy, Lok Sahitya Parishad, and Kutah Pikaka.
